Jennifer Baker - Teaching Assistant I have known since I was in high school and became a camp counselor for three- and four-year olds that working with young children was what I wanted to do "when I grew up." Nothing can compare to the look on a preschooler's face when they learn something new for the first time or accomplish a task without help. It is such a joy to watch children grow cognitively, emotionally and socially. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Mount Holyoke College where I double-majored in Psychology-Education and Latin. I am also certified to teach grades 1-6 in Massachusetts. Before coming to Here Wee Grow I was a lunch-aide for seven years at Prudence Crandall and a substitute teacher throughout Enfield. My husband Eric and I have been married for 16 years - 15 of which we have lived in Enfield. I have four children: three daughters aged 15, 10 and 7 and a 13 year-old son. As they have progressed through school I have been very active as PTO Vice-President, Girl Scout leader and volunteer. Because of my love of both children and reading one of my favorite places to be has been volunteering for the past eight years in the library at Prudence Crandall. My youngest 2 daughters both attended Here Wee Grow for two years each. During those years I enjoyed being involved in the activities of the school and I am so excited to have now become a teaching assistant. I believe that the foundation of learning begins in the home. I believe it is the job of a teacher to provide an enriching environment in which all students of all abilities can grow cognitively, emotionally and socially without a fear of failure. A good teacher will provide a nurturing environment conducive to fostering a lifelong love of learning. |
